Plans, Edgar

Edgar Plans, born in Madrid in 1977, lives and works in Gijón, Asturias. During his childhood, he took drawing and painting classes but was never interested in traditional art education, such as learning about still life or portraits. It wasn’t until 1995 that he decided to explore again his passion for art. From 1995 to 1997, he rented the attic of Spanish artist José María Ramon, where he discovered his own creative voice. A few years later, he graduated from the Universidad de Oviedo with a degree in Art History.
During his adolescence and at the beginning of his career, he created numerous graffiti pieces, incorporating texts and small drawings that expressed his opinions. During an interview with Coolt, he mentioned that for him, “street art meant past, friendship, innocence, combined with technological present and prosperity”.
Nowadays, these ideas and elements are reflected in his canvases, characterized by a childlike, pop-art style. Through optimism, vibrant colors, and imaginary characters, Plans invites us to reflect on difficult and dramatic contemporary themes from a new perspective. In his work, the freedom of childhood and the techniques mastered in adulthood are fundamental to his creative process. This allows him to achieve a unique balance between humor and seriousness, which defines his paintings.
Since his first show in 2005, he has exhibited extensively throughout the entire world and has been awarded with awards such as, Premio de Dibujo Daniel Martínez Pedrayes, XIII Bienal de la Carbonera or Premio Internacional de Pintura Luis Adelantado. His work has also been exhibited by various galleries at national and international art fairs.
Today, Plans continues to paint and expand his presence in public and private collections from important institutions. In 2019, Artsy highlighted him as one of the most valued and in-demand emerging artists, while Forbes recognized him as one of the prominent contemporary stars of pop art.
