Mir, Joaquim
Joaquim Mir was born in Barcelona in 1873. He began his artistic training at the age of 16 while working at the private studio of painter Lluís Graner.
He soon enrolled in the Offical School of Fine Arts in Barcelona, but ended up dropping out to teach himself.
He had a great fondness for painting and drawing landscapes and people's lives outside the city. Due to his ocher palette, he was invited to join the Colla del Safrà, with artists such as Joaquim Sunyer, Isidre Nonell or Ricard Canals.
Some health issues restricted him from painting for a while. However, when he returned to painting, he organized his work in pictorial seasons, staying in the same specific place to pricesily paint each view. Tarragona, Miravet, Montserrat, the Vallès, Vilanova i la Geltrú and Andorra were his main landscapes.
He ended up retiring in Vilanova i la Geltrú after he married Maria Estalella.
Joaquim Mir renewed the landscpe genre of the late XIX century with a personal style full of color and expression.
