“Constellations” by Jaume PlensaBack

“Constellations” is the name with which Jaume Plensa has christened the doors of the Liceu, his latest commission from the institution to mark its 175th anniversary.

The artist wanted to pay tribute to Joan Miró, who is already present with his mosaic on Las Ramblas. Plensa’s artwork is also dedicated to the architect Antoni Gaudí.

The doors are made of stainless steel and include letters in different alphabets, as a tribute to diversity. “A hymn to the hope of positive globality. It’s not the standardisation of alphabets, but the beauty of seeing very diverse cultures mixed together, but maintaining their identity,” the artist explains.
