100 years ago André Breton wrote the Surrealist Manifesto, giving birth to one of the most revolutionary artistic movements of the 20th century. It was signed artists like Joan Miró, Salvador Dalí, René Magritte, Yves Tanguy, Max Ernst or Giorgio de Chirico.
To commemorate the impact of surrealism in the art world, various museums have curated different exhibitions dedicated to these same artists:
- Imagine! 100 years of surrealism – Travelling exhibition (Royal Museums of Fine Arts Belgium, Centre Pompidou in Paris, Hamburger Kunsthalle in Hamburg, Fundación Mapfre in Madrid and Philadelphia Museum of Art).
- Magritte · Folon – At the Royal Museums of Fine Arts Belgium until July 21st 2024.
- Histoire de ne pas rire. Surrealism in Belgium – In Bozar, Brussels until June 16th 2024.
- Lacan, The exhibition. When art meets psychoanalysis – At Centre Pompidou, Paris until May 25th 2024.
- Surrealismos. La era de la máquina – At Fundación Canal, Madrid until April 14th 2024.
- Forbidden territories: 100 years of surreal landscapes – At The Hepworth Wakefield, United Kingdom from November 23rd 2024 until April 23rd 2025.
- Max Ernst and Photography – At the Museum of Photography, Berlin from October 18th until April 27th 2025.
