Exhibition
TÀPIES. Matter and spirit
June 2022 - October 2022 Galeria Jordi Pascual inaugurates the new local by presenting, for the first time, a monographic exhibition dedicated to Antoni Tàpies (Barcelona, 1923 – 2012).
Tàpies was one of the world’s leading exponents of the Informalism movement and is considered one of the most important artists in Spain during the second half of the 20th century.
Under the title “Tàpies. Matter and Spirit”, the exhibition brings together a selection of twenty-two works, most of them dating from the 1980s to the 2000s. Through these works, the aim is to make known two of the fundamental pillars that have formed part of Tàpies’ artistic career. On the one hand, the constant research to find out what matter was and how he experimented through it, and on the other, the concept of spirit, closely linked to the artist’s vision of life, influenced by Eastern culture and Buddhist thought.
The canvases, wood, cardboard and paper on display invite us to discover the unique and personal world of Tàpies, a perfect combination of tradition and innovation within an abstract framework full of symbolism.
