Hernández, Secundino
Secundino Hernández (Madrid, 1975) is one of the most internationally acclaimed Spanish artist of his generation.
He studied fine arts in the Complutense University of Madrid. His influences are broad and eclectic. From the Spanish masters of the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries (Goya, Velázquez, El Greco...), to the avant-garde artists of the 20th century (Giacometti, Miró, Picabia...). However, he states, \"my influences are also in routinary elements such as a painted wall in the street, a popular song, a comic or the stroke of a line\", he explains.
Together with his father, Secundino builds his own tools to create his paintings: metal tips, paint-stripping tweezers, a custom pressure washer, and personally handcrafted frames.
His pictorial elements are confront each other in the canvas, creating tensions between the lines and colors and between the depth and flatness of the subjects. Although his work looks expressionist at first, it always follows a strict analytical and reflective approach.
Secundino Hernández (Madrid, 1975) has exhibited in museums such as YUZ Museum, Shanghai (2015); Museo Nacional de Escultura, Valladolid (2014); Hambre, Barcelona (2014); Werkschaulle, Leipzig (2013); Rubell Family Collection, Miami (2013); Museo Patio Herreriano, Valladolid (2013); Espace d'exposition des Ateliers d'Artistes de la Ville, Marseille (2012); The Lord Wink Award, Istanbul (2009); Bienal de La Paz, Bolivia (2007) or the Academia de España, Rome (2006).
